First Thing to Know

TExES stands for Texas Examination of Educator Standards. The TExES exams are required for certification to teach at public schools in the state of Texas. The TExES History 7-12 (233) is used to assess whether prospective teachers have the required knowledge and skills to be successful as entry-level educators in history subjects.

There are many different TExES exams, so they are identified by a test name and a test number. The TExES History 7-12 has the test number 233. Some study guides and practice tests may refer only to the test name or the test number, so it is good to be familiar with both.

TExES History 7-12 Exam Breakdown

The TExES History 7-12 is made up of four domains. While it might be possible to perform poorly in certain domains and still pass the overall exam, it’s best to be fully prepared for all areas of the TExES History 7-12 exam.

Domain Percentage of test* History 7-12

Standards Assessed

  1. World History
30% IV-X
  1. US History
36% IV-X
  1. Texas History
20% IV-X
  1. Foundations, Skills, Research, and Instruction
14% I-III

*Percentage of test is approximate

The TExES History 7-12 (233) does not have subtests, so you will need to take the entire exam during each test attempt, even if you fail only one domain topic.

What is a Passing Score

All TExES exams are scored using scaled scores ranging from 100 to 300, and a passing score is 240 or higher. Your final score will be a scaled score, which means that the number of points you earn from correct answers will be adjusted to a standard to account for alternative test forms.
