240 Tutoring Testing Strategies and Tips

First Thing to Know

The TExES Health EC-12 (157) exam is part of the TExES series of tests. TExES stands for Texas Examinations of Educator Standards. The TExES tests are designed to test beginning educators and determine whether or not they have the sufficient knowledge to teach various subjects and grade levels.

This test was created to determine whether or not the test taker has the prerequisite knowledge necessary to teach health classes in Texas schools.

The identification number for the TExES Health EC-12 is 157. This number is used to distinguish this content exam from other subject area tests.

TExES Health EC-12 Exam Breakdown

The TExES Health EC-12 is made up of 100 questions over a five-hour testing window. The test covers five domains, each with individual competencies that further break down the content of that domain. For a full overview of the domains and competencies on this exam, the TEA provides a list here.

Domain Percentage of Test
Personal Health 26%
Healthy Interpersonal Relationships 20%
Community and Environmental Health and Safety 20%
Health-Related Skills and Resources 20%
The School Health Education Program 14%

While the test is broken down by domain, there are no subtests in the TExES Health EC-12 (157) exam. This means that if you do not pass on the first try, you must retake the whole test.

What is a Passing Score

The TExES Health EC-12 is graded using a scaled score. Scores range from 100 to 300. In order to pass, you must achieve a scaled score of 240 or higher.
