First Thing to Know

The Praxis® exams are used to assess the qualifications of teachers. The word praxis means the practical application of any branch of learning. The Praxis® exams offer you the opportunity to demonstrate that you have mastered the skills and strategies necessary to teach a specific subject or grade level.

This specific test, Praxis® Principles of Learning and Teaching: Grades K-6 (5622), is to assess the knowledge and understanding of educational practices that are foundational to professional educators. This test focuses on the foundational practices for educators wanting to teach grades K-6.

The identification number for the Praxis® Principles of Learning and Teaching: Grades K–6 is 5622. What does “5622” mean? The number helps the states and administrators with the identification of this test. It is much easier for them to refer to the tests by the four-digit number than by the lengthy name of the exam.
