GACE is an acronym for the Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators. Anyone who wants to teach language arts in the middle grades in Georgia needs to pass the GACE Middle Grades Language Arts (011) exam.
Each one of the GACE exams has an assigned number, and the number for the Middle Grades Language Arts exam is 011. There are many different educator exams and these numbers help the state keep track of the different tests.
GACE Middle Grades Language Arts Exam Breakdown
The GACE Middle Grades Language Arts exam is made up of four subareas, shown in the chart below. You’ll have 2 hours to complete the exam, which includes 90 selected response questions and 2 constructed response questions. You must pass the overall exam and must retake the entire examination if you fail.

What is a Passing Score
A passing score on the GACE Middle Grades Language Arts assessment is 220 or above out of 300. There are two types of passing scores: scores between 220 and 249 will result in passing at the induction level, while candidates who score 250 or more will pass at the professional level. At this time, both the induction and professional levels satisfy certification requirements.
How to Register for the GACE Middle Grades Language Arts Exam
New to Teaching?
Before you can register for your exam, you’ll most likely need to complete an approved educator preparation program. You can find information on becoming certified in the state of Georgia on the GaPSC website. After you have obtained testing approval, you’re ready to start the registration process.
- Create a MyPSC account. You will then be given a GA CERT ID to be used during the registration process.
- Create a GACE account. Once you have created an account and logged in, the tests you are approved to take will be listed.
- Register for the GACE Middle Grades Language Arts (011) exam. You’ll need to enter your GA CERT ID, full name, date of birth, and social security number.
- Choose up to three score recipients to receive your scores.
- Work through any remaining prompts to complete your registration.
After you have selected and paid for the test, you will be able to reserve your testing date and location. You can check the available seats prior to purchasing by following the prompt.
