GACE ESOL Video Overviews

Choosing the right study material for the GACE ESOL (619) can be overwhelming. 240 Tutoring offers a helpful video on choosing the best study guide for you.

While not specific to this exam, this video provides some excellent test taking strategies that can be used for almost any teacher certification exam:

First Thing to Know

GACE is an acronym for the Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators. Anyone who wants to teach English for Speakers of Other Languages for any grade in Georgia from kindergarten to 12th grade needs to pass the GACE ESOL (619) exam.

The GACE ESOL (619) exam is a combined test. It is composed of two exams: Test I (119) and Test II (120). It is possible to take Test I and Test II on different dates; however, many find it convenient to take both exams at the same time in the combined GACE ESOL (619).

Each one of the GACE subject area exams has an assigned number, and the number for ESOL is 619. There are many different educator exams and these numbers exist to help the state keep track of the different tests.

GACE ESOL Exam Breakdown

The GACE ESOL (619) is made up of Test I (119) and Test II (120). This means you must pass both Test I (119) and Test II (120) to pass the combined GACE ESOL (619) exam. You can take either test (Test I or Test II) individually or take both in a single session. If you pass one test but fail the other, you may retake just the test you did not pass.

Test Code Test Time* Number of Questions
Test I 119 2 hours 80
Test II 120 2 hours 80
Combined Test I and Test II 619 4 hours 160

*Total test duration is 2.5 hours for Test I and Test II, and 5 hours for both tests combined. This allows for tutorials, breaks, etc.

Test I Subareas

Subareas Approximate Percentage of Test

What is a Passing Score

A passing score on the GACE ESOL (619) assessment is 220 or above out of 300. Test takers can earn one of two types of passing scores. Scores between 220 and 249 will result in passing at the induction level, while candidates who score 250 or more will pass at the professional level.

Both the induction and professional levels satisfy certification requirements. However, candidates who pass one test at the professional level but pass the other at the induction level will have their entire exam listed as passing at the induction level. Should this happen, you may retake the subtest that you passed at the induction level in an effort to improve your score and pass the entire exam at the professional level.
