FTCE stands for Florida Teacher Certification Examinations. These exams are used to assess the knowledge and skills necessary to teach in the state of Florida.
This particular exam, the FTCE Professional Education Test, evaluates your knowledge of pedagogical and professional practices. Anyone who is planning to become a certified teacher in Florida is required to take the Professional Education Test.
The identification number for the FTCE Professional Education Test is 083. This number is mainly used for registration and record keeping purposes. It’s also helpful for you, the test taker, to be familiar with this number so that you can make sure you are registering for the right exam and studying the right material.
FTCE Professional Education Test Exam Breakdown
The FTCE Professional Education Test is made up of eight competencies. There are no subtests, which means you’ll need to retake the entire exam if you don’t pass. The test must be completely in its entirety during the two-and-a-half-hour time frame; you cannot take portions of the test at separate times.

What is a Passing Score
The passing score for the Professional Education Test is a scaled score of at least 200. To earn this score you’ll need to answer 71% of the questions correctly, which equates to about 79 of the 110 questions.
How to Register for the FTCE Professional Education Test Exam
New to Teaching?
If you are completely new to teaching, you’ll need to complete an educator preparation program before taking any certification exams. You can review the different pathways to becoming a certified teacher on the Florida Department of Education website.
Once you’ve completed an approved educator preparation program, you can register for your exam by following these steps:
- Create an FTCE account here.
- Once you have created an account and logged in, you will be taken to your account home page where you will have the option to register for an exam.
- Click on “Register for the FTCE/FELE.”
- Read and agree to testing policies. If you qualify for testing accommodations, you’ll also request these at this time.
- Select the FTCE Professional Education Test from the menu.
- Complete the required background information and select where you would like your scores to be sent.
- You’re almost finished! Return to your account homepage. Under “Open Registrations,” you will see your exam. Click “Schedule” to select the date, time, and location of your exam.
- Review your registration and submit payment.
