This particular exam, the FTCE Physical Education K-12, evaluates your knowledge of content specifically related to physical education. Anyone who is planning to teach physical education in the state of Florida must pass the FTCE Physical Education K-12.

The identification number for the FTCE Physical Education K-12 is 063. This number is mainly used for registration and record-keeping purposes. It’s also helpful for you, the test taker, to be familiar with this number so that you can make sure you are registering for the right exam and studying the right material.

FTCE Physical Education K–12 Exam Breakdown

The FTCE Physical Education K-12 is a computer-based test (CBT) with approximately 120 multiple-choice questions. You will have two and a half hours to complete the exam. The exam is broken down into 13 different competencies, as shown in the table below. There are no subtests, which means you will need to retake the entire exam if you don’t pass.

The passing score for the FTCE Physical Education K-12 is a scaled score of at least 200. To earn this score you’ll need to answer at least 73% of the questions correctly, which equates to about 88 of the 120 questions.

How to Register for the FTCE Physical Education K–12 Exam

New to Teaching?

If you are completely new to teaching, you’ll need to complete an educator preparation program before taking your certification exams. You can review the different pathways to becoming a certified teacher on the Florida Department of Education website.

Once you’ve completed an approved educator preparation program, you can register for your exam by following the steps below.

  1. Create an FTCE account here.
  2. Once you have created an account and logged in, you will be taken to your account home page, where you will have the option to register for an exam.
  3. Click on “Register for the FTCE/FELE.”
  4. Read and agree to testing policies. If you qualify for testing accommodations, you’ll also request these at this time.
  5. Select “FTCE Physical Education K-12 (063)” from the menu.
  6. Complete the required background information and select where you would like your scores to be sent.
  7. You’re almost finished! Return to your account home page. Under “Open Registrations,” you will see your exam. Click “Schedule” to select the date, time, and location of your exam.
  8. Review your registration and submit payment.
